At a time when the real estate market is overrun with prospects, interior designers are styling homes to increase value and accelerate home sales. Gail Meyer, vice president and treasurer of Staged Homes New Jersey, says home staging is just the right tool to address today's saturated market. "The real estate industry today is tough," Meyer says. "You need marketing tools to help you." Unlike interior design, Meyer says home stagers assess every aspect of a home and work to present it in its best light. "We don't just put a vase of flowers on a table," she adds. "We take a critical look at the house from the exterior, from curb appeal to the interior of the home. We focus on maximizing the highlights of the home." According to Staged Homes' Web site, staged homes sell 6.9 percent faster than un-staged homes. Meyer notes that three of six homes her company recently staged sold in record time and all were in different price brackets.
